El albazo is an Ecuadorian mestizo musical and dance genre. It has its origins in the yaravi, a musical rhythm of pre-Hispanic origin. In the Azuay province and particularly in Cuenca, this musical genre, like other Ecuadorian mestizo rhythms, had a strong presence from the late nineteenth century to the eighties in the twentieth century. That is, albazo is a musical genre characteristic of the Sierra region of Ecuador, it was probably taking shape and being syncretized in colonial times, it is a kind of prelude or beginning of a festive day generally, this genre was performed at dawn announcing the priostes, guests, and neighbors that the new holiday had to begin.
Albazo, is a genre that evokes the joy of a new holiday, it is played at dawn (five in the morning) and the priostes must prepare for the new holiday
