MARIMBA
The marimba is an instrument and a rhythm typical of the city of Esmeralda and representative of its Afro roots. The marimba is of African origin from some tribes like the Ngodos but its adaptation in the XV century due to the shipwrecks of slaves in the waters of the Pacific and settled on the north coast of Ecuador is what makes it different.
The traditional marimba music, songs and dances are musical expressions that are an important part of the social, family and community fabric of the Esmeraldeña population.
