This style of music comes from nationalism.
The national music seeks to represent the ethnic and cultural diversity of the Ecuadorian people following the guidelines set by Indigenism and Social Realism in Ecuadorian literature and painting in the 1930s. By denouncing the exploitation and social injustice suffered by the Indians, blacks, cholos, montubios, and mestizos.

National music is made up of urbanized versions of a set of musical genres of indigenous and mestizo origin that represent the musical aesthetics of the elites. The genre allows folk sounds to blend with more current genres, such as rock and pop.
