Traditional musical genres of Ecuador

The traditional rhythms of Ecuador have autochthonous, European and African influence. From indigenous music, prior to the colonial period, hardly any bones or bird feathers have been found in wind instruments (dulzainas, ocarinas, flautas de pan, rondadores; troncos), cut animal skins, mineral flakes for percussion (bombos, cajas, xilófonos primitivos ).

Music in Ecuador has evolved notably through the ages, and nowadays foreign modern rhythms have been merging with indigenous rhythms, incorporating electronic instruments to the traditional Ecuadorian musical accompaniment (sanjuanito or pasacalle).

In the same way, various foreign musical genres have representatives in Ecuador, plus the country's musical range. National music is heard throughout the country in Ecuador.
